Pibonacci Quilt
This painting was created to hang on the wall opposite Velvet Peaks and Sun and Moon.
Because the symbolic presence of the Velvet Peak with Sun and Moon is powerful and assertive, this work was conceived as a quiet counterpart — a visual field that does not compete, but steadies the space.
The room itself carries a deeply Korean atmosphere, shaped by personal longing and memory. Surrounded by moon jars and objects that evoke home, the space called for a subtle expression of Korean sensibility. Rather than literal imagery, I turned to the logic of jogakbo, traditional Korean patchwork—translating its spirit into a contemporary abstract language.
The compositional divisions follow the Fibonacci sequence — the numerical structure that generates the golden ratio. While the structure is not immediately visible, it creates an underlying sense of balance and calm, allowing the eye to move gently across the surface without tension or hierarchy.
Although painted in acrylic, generous use of fluid medium creates layered translucency. The overlapping planes behave like fine layers of ramie fabric, softly revealing and absorbing one another. Color remains restrained, light, and breathable — allowing the entire surface to feel permeable rather than opaque.
This work seeks to complete the room not through emphasis, but through quiet presence. A space softened by transparency, rhythm, and restraint — perhaps reflecting a desire, at that time, to become such a presence myself.
